Saturday was Armed Forces Day, and I didn't see any celebrations or observances.
Scranton used to have a parade. It was always poorly attended, but it was something. I've long felt that there was a better way to do it. Block off a street near Courthouse Square, or take part of Nay Aug Park and use it for a day filled with military displays, and maybe some music. People could come and go all day. They weren't tied to one singular event.
I do realize the pandemic changed the way we observe things, but it does make me sad that the day went mostly unnoticed.
Let's make up for it by taking a little more time this Memorial Day weekend to remember those who served and those who are currently in uniform. served
